The East Richmond Beekeepers Association is offering a beekeeping class in 2013 for the beginner and novice beekeeper. Instruction and demonstrations focus on what a new beekeeper needs to know in the first few months of beekeeping.
The early months are critical for a new beekeeper as he/she becomes acquainted with their bees. Those months often spell the difference between success and failure.
Although beekeepers with experience in Top Bar Hives will be on hand, the course focuses on the standard langstroth hive setup and management techniques. The instructors believe that a langstroth setup offers the best chance for new beekeeper success (for both the beekeeper and the honey bee!)
When: 1 pm to 5 pm, Sat, Jan 19 & Sat, Feb 23
Where: Sandston Library (Eastern Henrico), Virginia
Cost: $45
Sorry, but the class is now full for 2013.
Hello,
I am a graphic design student working on a project introducing suburban homeowners to the privilege and bounty of beekeeping, we have just begun researching this topic and I was hoping to take this class. If not any resources or tips would be greatly appreciated, even if I could sit in on the class for a few hours and take notes perhaps?
Thank you for your time,
Tobias
Unfortunately, the class is full. But, I would recommend going to a couple of our meetings, and checking out some of the links here.
Both of these actions will be very helpful to getting you the knowledge that you seek.
Take care.
Will you be offering any classes near Richmond or Williamsburg in the fall of 2012? Two of us would like to participate. Thanks.
There are no current plans to offer any classes for the remainder of 2012. I am fairly certain that we will have another Beekeeping 101 class, but do not know if it will be towards the end of 2012 or in the first couple of months of 2013 at this point.
